2015 is upon us and what better time to make big changes and big resolutions, but it’s not just people who can make resolutions. In Nanex’s case, companies can do it too. In the later months of 2014 Nanex’s partners came together to discuss a new direction for the company. While Nanex has always been an ecologically and socially responsible company, we have thanks to our many loyal customers grown to a point wherein we can take that position to the next level.
Our first actionable decision was the removal of all solvent based products from our product line. That’s’ right! With the new AquaShield branding comes new more responsible formulas, every one of which is fully water based, 100% non-toxic, and entirely eco-friendly. To the best of our knowledge Nanex is now the world’s first major developer of entirely water based superhydrophobic water repellents.
In reality the decision to switch our nano-coatings to water based was only a by-product or peripheral requirement of a much larger plan. The real decision was to actively engage Nanex in social good, partnering with non-profits and lending our resources to organizations that focus on positive change in this world. If we were going to do that, we couldn’t be selling environmentally harmful products now could we.
Just a few days ago in the final weeks of 2014 a major announcement was made… Nanex has pledged to donate a portion of its options to a charitable organization, The Upside Foundation of Canada.
“Companies pledge stock options to the Upside Foundation, convertible into a small portion of equity. When the company has a liquidity event (e.g., IPO, acquisition), the Foundation sells its options for cash and donates the proceeds to registered charities.”
By taking this action and participating with The Upside Foundation Nanex has effectively bound itself to its new course of social good for the long term, but more importantly this is an incredible opportunity for Nanex to act as an example to other Canadian companies. The world is changing rapidly and it’s up to all of us to decide the way in which it changes.
